How a One Second Decision changed my life

If you know a navy seal, have ever listened to Jocko Willink or read one of David Goggins books, then you are probably familiar with the concept of the One Second Decision. The One Second Decision is all about taking a breath, taking a moment to think about whether you really want to be here. A One Second Decision has the opportunity to change your life in a positive way or a negative way. The One Second Decision has led many people to a lifetime of regret. On the other hand, it has also led many to become more powerful and successful than they ever dreamed possible.

I remind myself frequently of the power of a One Second Decision. For example, five weeks ago I completely cut out alcohol. I was not a heavy drinker before then, but to go completely dry still takes self-control. As a business owner, I have many stressors. In the past, I would come home after a hard day and “justify” a drink because I’d had a bad day. In the first couple of weeks, abstaining from alcohol took a LOT of self-control and willpower. After all, hubs still drinks and we still have alcohol in the house. I use these One Second Decisions to stop, take a moment, remind myself of my goals and redirect my emotions.

It’s amazing how simple life becomes when you take control of your life instead of life controlling you. I am currently in the process of building out a new physical and life transformation program that will help others become the captain of their life ship. I’ve seen tremendous growth, physical changes and mental strength through this process and I am eager to share it with others. [The program is currently under beta test by a few select clients and will be rolled out to the public in early September 2023. If you are interested in being considered for the program, you can subscribe to this page or send an email to radley@radleywest.com to express interest.]

The next time you are faced with a decision to 1) ignore your alarm and hit snooze 2) skip your workout 3) dive face first into a bag of chips 4) drive through a fast food drive through lane 5) spend recklessly when you have ample debt 6) send a text or email that you may regret later…use the One Second Decision. STOP. TAKE A MOMENT TO BREATH. REMIND YOURSELF OF YOUR GOALS. REDIRECT YOUR MENTAL ATTITUDE AND EMOTIONS. Trust me, this little thing will change your life.
